What To Wear To Your Session

The main goal is to feel like YOU! The true you. Your outfit should reflect your personality and personal style, while being comfortable and making you feel confident.

Consider the Setting

Firstly, consider the weather the day of your session. If it is a sunny day in Arizona, I definitely recommend dressing to keep yourself cool and minimize feeling sweaty.

Next, consider the terrain of where your session is being held. If we are adventuring on the red rocks and you aren’t the most confident hiker, please dress accordingly to ensure that your safety & comfort.

Selecting Colors

I generally recommend selecting neutral or muted tones. In Northern Arizona, nature is so full of color, neutral colors (beige, gray, black, white) are a great way to stand out and draw the attention to you among the epic view. I also love when clients choose beautiful colors that compliment the background. Bright colors can wash out your skin tone and often distract from the natural beauty - you & the surroundings. Muted colors compliment you while adding a pop of color to your photographs.

Patterns & Textures

If one of you are wanting to wear a pattern, then have the other person wear a complimentary solid color. This will help avoid clashing and create a cohesive look overall.

Textures are a great way to add to a photo. Examples of textures that always photograph beautifully - velvet, satin, lace, etc.

Shoes

Pack a pair of stilettos or your fanciest dress shoes and slip into your sneakers or go completely barefoot - it's ultimately up to you!

I always recommend bringing along a comfortable pair of shoes to walk in while we get from spot to spot. Most the time, we won’t be going on too wild of an adventure (unless you want to - then I’m totally game!) but I’d rather you be safe than sorry.

Keep It Comfortable

Your session is not the time to wear something uncomfortable. The key to beautiful candid photos is to get you feeling as comfortable as possible, if you are worried about how your clothes fit it will be much more difficult to achieve. I highly recommend not wearing clothes that are too tight.

Props

When I say “props” I’m not necessarily talking chalk boards & banners, we can come up with a fun way to incorporate your passions into your session! Whether it be your four-legged friend or favorite hobby, we want these photos to authentically represent your life & loves! Let’s brainstorm & show off the true YOU!

Hair & Makeup

I recommend wearing one step up from your normal beauty routine. For example, I normally don’t wear any makeup at all - I would wear a simple, natural makeup look including mascara and a lip color.

If you are interested in booking a professional prior to your session, I would love to provide local recommendations for hair and makeup.

Bring Options

I always recommend bringing two or three different outfit options and accessory combos. This allows us to get the most out of our time together, as well as, switch it up if you aren’t feeling a particular look.

I love the outfit styling process though, so feel free to run specific choices by me before your session!

In Conclusion…

These rules are not set in stone! These are merely my suggestions to you to hopefully help narrow down from your vast closet of options.
